I got this idea a while back.

The idea is to replace the magnet in a guitar pickup with a coil and a steel core.

This will form an adjustable electric magnet where one could adjust the magnet's power and pole in order to adjust the tone from your guitar.

I did an experiment with a cheap chinese singlecoil.

I removed the magnet and attached the coil to an adjustable PSU.

At 36V and 35A the col would not even budge a rivet pin that the broken pieces of magnets could move with ease.

My conclusion is that one would need a special made electro magnet and an external psu for he guitar to run the pickups.
